About the HBA

What is the HBA of the Sioux Empire?

What is the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire? In 1956, a group of homebuilders and suppliers joined together to create an association that would serve the needs of the rapidly growing housing industry in and around the Sioux Falls area.

The initial purpose of the association was to enhance the climate for housing construction and monitor community activities to safeguard the affordability of new housing in the area. The association founders were dedicated to serving the needs of its members and promoting the rights of homeownership.

Today, the purpose of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire remains the same as it was 47 years ago, and Association leaders are still dedicated to serving the needs of members and promoting homeownership. There are more than 600 builder and associate members that make up the fabric of today's Home Builders Association.

Builder members are those firms that are actively involved in construction, remodeling or the land development. Associate members are those firms that support the housing industry directly or regularly serve those businesses actively involved in the building process. The activities of the HBA are as diverse as its membership. However, a common thread is essential throughout all functions. What binds the Association is an ongoing desire to improve the building industry through public relations, legislative activities and civic and community involvement.

The Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire is active in sponsoring and promoting activities for local consumers interested in new homeownership or upgrading their present residence. Each year the HBA hosts a number of events, including the Sioux Empire Home Show, Spring & Fall Parade of Homes and the Showcase of Remodeled Homes. These events introduce consumers to products and changes in the construction industry.

HBA members believe that it is important that the consumer is made aware of the many products, issues and building and remodeling techniques that are going to affect or improve their present home or a future home. HBA members also work with the elderly and disabled through their "HBA Repair Affair" program. This community service program is designed to upgrade the homes of Sioux Falls elderly and disabled who would not be able to undertake these activities themselves. Since the program's inception in 1993, "Repair Affair" volunteers have helped more than 80 homeowners in Sioux Falls.
